The number of detentions reported to PIRC around the state has increased over the past 4 weeks.
The two trends we are seeing emerge:
Detention immediately following an interaction with local law enforcement
Detentions in community on the rise again, with about 4 in 5 detentions happening before noon
Now is a good time to refresh what we already know works
For immigrant communities:
Remember who you trust. Make sure 2-3 people outside your home have your biographical information
Remember and practice your rights with your loved ones at home:Â
The right to remain silent
The right to not sign anything without speaking to a lawyer
The right to not give permission to enter or search your home, car or person
