Weekly Update for May 28, 2026

The Data

  • 19 detentions reported to the hotline 5/20-5/28

  • Counties where detentions occurred: Lane, Multnomah, Clackamas, Marion, Jackson, Benton

  • 43 detentions reported thus far in May 2026

The number of detentions reported to PIRC around the state has increased over the past 4 weeks.

The two trends we are seeing emerge:

  • Detention immediately following an interaction with local law enforcement

  • Detentions in community on the rise again, with about 4 in 5 detentions happening before noon

Now is a good time to refresh what we already know works

For immigrant communities:

  • Remember who you trust. Make sure 2-3 people outside your home have your biographical information

  • Remember and practice your rights with your loved ones at home:

    • The right to remain silent

    • The right to not sign anything without speaking to a lawyer

    • The right to not give permission to enter or search your home, car or person

  • Report possible ICE activity to the PIRC hotline: 1-888-622-1510

  • Help spread facts, not fear! Do spread the PIRC, ECO, and Sanctuary Promise hotlines; do not share unverified information, as this spreads panic!

Confirm news and rumors by asking about sources, and have witnesses call PIRC to verify
