Weekly Update for April 14, 2026
The Data
7 detentions reported to PIRC 4/9-4/14
All detentions that occurred in Oregon were in Multnomah County
We continue to see an escalation in detentions in the SE Asian community, primarily those of Laotian descent
Half of the detentions this week and 14 since February have been part of the Laotian diaspora
We strongly recommend people from this community connect with their lawyer or the ECO program prior to immigration appointments, especially if they receive a letter or call directing them to appear in the next couple weeks
If you have an appointment at the Macadam ICE facility, please connect with PIRC/CLEAR clinic legal observers (in red vests) outside before going inside so we can get your information to notify your emergency contact and lawyer!
PIRC Partner of the Week
LUS (Latinos Unidos Siempre) is a youth-led organization based in Salem that works to build working-class power through grassroots organizaing and leadership development. This year, LUS has led major victories in Salem and Woodburn to protect and redistribute resources for immigrant communities.
They have been a huge support and resource to refer families to when detentions have occurred in the Salem area. PIRC is so grateful to be in partnership with the LUS team, and for their community-building work!
How can I help this week?
We continue to hear from immigrant communities of the need for supportive services as this administration makes it harder to work, rent, and be in community.
“The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has released a proposed change to federal regulations, denying federally subsidized housing to entire families that include a person who is undocumented. The proposed rule denies housing assistance to eligible individuals – including U.S. citizens and lawfully present immigrants – if someone else in their family does not have an eligible immigration status. It also requires eligibility verification for all individuals based on a flawed system. “ - Protecting Immigrant Families coalition website
